Nagoya Cochin, the King of Chickens
Nagoya Cochin (official name: Nagoya breed) was bred in the Meiji era by the brothers Sohei and Masahide Kaifu, former members of the Owari clan.
On March 10, 1905, it was recognized by the Japan Poultry Association as the "first domestic practical breed" of chicken. In honor of this fact, March 10 was designated "Nagoya Cochin Day" by Aichi Prefecture and the Nagoya Cochin Association. Today, the Nagoya Cochin is the most well-known chicken in Japan and is loved by many people for its excellent meat quality and rich, tasty eggs.
